In this thesis it is firstly discussed that the definition of culture, the contents of culture and the characteristics of culture in the framework of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Then it is pointed that the goals of teaching a foreign language include the specifical goal and the universal educational goal. The goal of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is to develope the intercultural competence of Chinese learners. As Chinese learning in german schools developing rapidly, teaching materials for TCFL learners are playing more and more important roles. In this thesis an analysis of the teaching material DONG BU DONG will be given from four principles-open in multicultural situation, ability of self-reflection, ability to overcome ethnocentrism, ability to remove stereotype. The conclusion is that the textbook DONG BU DONG can help Chinese learners improve the intercultural competence.
