Li Ciming was a famous scholar in the evening of Qing Dynasty. His work Yuemantang Diary was attached great importance by academia for its consistency in40years. One great part of Yuemantang Diary was his reading notes and comments, which was later compiled in the book Yuemantang Reading Notes. These reading notes has become major materias in studying Li’s academic life.With a study on Yuemantang Diary and Yuemantang Reading Notes, this paper figures out Li’s personal reading history and his deeper thoughts derived from it. Li’s complete image was built on a look at his "reading world" which included the very start of his reading and the changes during the process. His personal book collections, his reading notes, his preferences, his mindset and his reading methods are also within the scope of this paper. A further study was taken on Li’s "thought world" which includes his academic thoughts, his cultural concepts and his litrary ideology. By study on his reading life, this paper analyses significances in shaping Li’s "thought world" brought by his readings.A closer look was taken in the forming process and internal logic of Li’s academic opinions. Analysis on Li’s language and ideas behind was also presented in this paper. Researches show that Li has great enthusiasm and devotion in reading and in literature. His love for books has deeply influenced his academic thoughts, his cultural concepts and his literature thoughts.
