As more and more foreign literary works for children have been translated into Chinese, studies on children’s literature translation are becoming more of a concern in the academic circles. A good translation can not only faithfully reproduce the content and form of the original work but also bring foreign culture to the target language readers. For children, reading foreign children’s literary works can enrich their knowledge and broaden their mind. So it is significant to translate foreign children’s literary works.CLT also plays an important role in the development of children’s literature. In order to give faithful and excellent translations of children’s literary works to the target language readers and promote the development of children’s literature, translators and scholars should pay great attention to translation strategies. When doing translating work, translators should manage to deal with problems like how to resolve cultural factors, how to use the strategies of D&F properly, and so on. In order to give excellent translations, translators and scholars should do relevant researches. This thesis attempts to use different versions of Charlotte’s Web as a case study to discuss the application of foreignization and domestication to CLT. The thesis first introduces some background information about this research. Then it discusses children’s literature translation as well as domestication and foreignization. Some relevant studies both at home and abroad are also discussed in this chapter. Chapter Two expounds the application of domestication and foreignization to children’s literature translation. At this, the author of the thesis thinks that domestication should be used as the main strategy and foreignization as a supplementary method in CLT. Chapter Three is the main part of this thesis. After giving a brief introduction to the original work and its writer as well as three of its Chinese versions, this chapter analyzes the strategies of D&F with examples to testify their feasibility in CLT. The author of this thesis states that the readers of children’s literature are mainly children and that their cognitive ability is limited. In order to translate children’s literary works catering to child readers, translators should use domestication as the main strategy and foreignization as a supplementary strategy. In this way, the translated text will be more acceptable to child readers.
