On February6,1950,4batches of17aircrafts invaded the downtown of Shanghai, mainly targeting Yang Shupu power plant, Zhabei hydropower plant, Nanshi Chinese electric company and Lu Jiawan France Merchant power company. As a result, the number of casualty was up to1600, and more than1000houses were destroyed, which made as many as50thousand people homeless. Yangshupu power plant, responsible for the city’s80%power supply, was unable to work due to the damage of equipment.23power factories suffered different degrees of damage. The power production decreased dramatically from156thousand Kwh to4thousand Kwh which led to a power-off in most urban areas of the city. More than80%factories in the city were forced to shut down, leaving their machines stop running. Massive production stopped, buses stopped running, family lamp stopped shinning. This air attack was known as the "26" bombing.Facing such a disaster, Shanghai Municipal Government, delt with it calmly. On one hand the government demanded repairing the equipment to restore the city’s power supply as soon as possible, on the other hand mobilized various medical institutions and charitable organizations to rescue the suffered people. After42hours of continuous fighting, at7:00on February8, part of the power generation has recovered. Till Feb.15, the city had been restored to65%of the original generation, basically to deal with the urgent need of electricity. Industrial, commercial and residential life was gradually returning to normal. In the past, most of scholars believe that " two six " bombing is Taiwan to mainland failed, trying to destroy the new regime of mainland. in fact this is a misreading of history. On the background of the Cold War, the bombing is actually at the beginning of1950when the United States government abandons Jiang and Taiwan’s policy came out, the Kuomintang authorities in Taiwan to the United States a reprisal."26bombing" has a significant impact in many ways. It interrupted Shanghai electricity and water supplies, and caused great inconvenience to the daily life of residents. The bombing of power plants caused the shutting down of industrial production and plant, stores and banks closing down, which brought great challenges to Shanghai and the country’s economic development. In order to enhance the air defense forces, after the "26bombing", the Central Military Commission built the first aviation unit in Shanghai-the fourth mixed brigade to strengthen the construction of Shanghai’s air force, which became the starting point of the new Chinese Air Force construction."26" bombing made the Chinese Communist authorities recognize that itwas necessary to capture the coastal islands and the liberation of Taiwan in order to consolidate political power. Therefore supporting the People’s Liberation Army to liberate Taiwan became the public cry. The bombing increased China’s anti-American sentiment, and further exacerbated the isolation and confrontation between China and the United States.
