Tess of the D’urbervilles is one of outstanding Hardy’s works. Tess is much of an excellent woman in Hardy’s works. The author discusses the image of Tess from the respect of the feminism translation theory.Based on the background of feminism translation theory, the author expounds the definition of the feminism translation theory and the influence of this theory to translation practice. In order to look into the differences between male and female translation works, the author recurs to the feminism translation theory to check the translators whether interprets the image of Tess from the original intention.The author firstly introduces the research background, the relationship between Hardy and Tess. the importance and goals of this thesis, the research situation of home and abroad, feminism translation theory’s impact on translation research, all of which Jays foundation for the following thesis. The author lays emphasis on subjects and image of Tess, studying Tess from the respects of portrait, words, actions and mind in different genders’editions, discussing the male and female whether has been affected by the feminism translation theory. The last chapter concludes the whole thesis, discussing the male and female works by virtue of the feminism translation theory fulfils the contents and direction of translation research, however it has its own limitations as well. All in all, it relocates the traditional literature image.
