In the history of Chinese literature, revivalism complex has been continuing lovedby writers and poets. In the Tang Dynasty, it was active to be expressed. Some famousliterary revival movements as the New Yuefu Movement, the Classical LiteratureMovement and so on were appeared. However, in the process of revivalism complex’sdevelopment, it was inevitable to coexist a part of literati who took against it. Theirliterary thinking and artistic creation lead new meaning and significance fordevelopment of literature. Li Shangyin was a representative figures in the period of LateTang. His opposite opinion from revivalism and the viewpoint of having uniquecreativity played a leader role. With expressing his dissatisfaction and negative forinflexible revivalism, he mainly absorbed the writing style of the Qi and LiangDynasties to promote his own literary thinking and creation, even if writers and poetswere used to excluding this writing style as flashy in the history of the Tang Dynasty. LiShangyin advocated writers, poets and writing styles of the Qi and Liang Dynastiesand then combined his own distressed style. Finally he made his unique style.By investigating and analyzing lots of literature which content was full of study onLi Shangyin, this thesis will start from exploring literary revivalism and Li Shangyin’sattitude to styles of the Qi and Liang Dynasties. The purpose is to learn something aboutthe relationship between writing styles of the Qi and Liang Dynasties and Li Shangyin’screation more better. On this foundation to study that Li Shangyin surpassed theachievement of the Qi and Liang Dynasties. By a key point of the relationship betweenLi Shangyin’s poetry and the Qi and Liang Dynasties’s. It got further to observe thislitterateur, if he just tried monotonously to implement his theory? whether there was aconflict between his literary thinking and creation and if there was a contradictionamong his literary ideal and social reality? Especially focusing on his attitude andtendency about literary revivalism, how did he think about literary revival movementsin the periods of Early and Middle Tang Dynasty? Why his rhythmical prose was alive and unique in the Late Tang Dynasty when main literary revival movements had notbeen disappeared? Why he had completely opposite opinion about writing styles of theQi and Liang Dynasties and former poets? If he could keep his own literary ideal andattitude when he was advocating and inheriting those writing styles of the Qi and LiangDynasties? Did he paid attention to reconcile the conflict between these two styles.This theory was completed by referencing the literatures and investigating theliterary history. Grasped threads and summaries of former writers’ experience forlearning Li Shangyin’s literary aesthetic taste and artistic characteristics. Fromexploring above questions in order to prove Li Shangyin’s inheriting and surpassing tostyles of the Qi and Liang Dynasties. Thus this is also a central subject of revivalism.
