Buzzwords And Expressions Popular Against The Background Of The Micro Era

This dissertation studies the buzzwords and expressions against the background ofthe Micro Era, and based on our survey among the young generation in Shanghai. A listof buzzwords and expressions with three levels is built and a thorough investigation into“Micro” is carried out. With the data base of overall research results and the analysis ofsome outstanding cases, we summarize the characteristics, causes trends and revelations.The paper consists of five parts.Chapter one presents the background of the topic. With the presence of “The NewEra of Micro”, Microblog industry is closely related to the language and cultures. Againstthe domestic study of buzzwords and expressions and its problems, theoretical andapplied values of this paper are raised, and also the objects and aims of this study.In the second chapter, we collect the results of our research in Shanghai and build alist of buzzwords and expressions of “Micro” with three levels. And we classify thesewords according to the degree of popularity, sources, methods of localization anddifferent language units.In the third chapter, we have an all-round, multi-angle research on “Micro”. The useof this word among the youth is introduced, and the semantic and pragmaticdevelopments of “Micro” are examined.“Micro” is determined as a para-affix. Weanalyze the characteristics of the new words with “Micro”, and the impacts that cause theaffixization of “Micro” from the aspect of both language and also the social part.Fourthly, on the basis of the first three chapters, analyzes and summarizes thecharacteristics, the causes of popularity, and the trends of these buzzwords andexpressions. It also points out the revelations about the society and the youth brought bythese words and expressions.The final chapter summarizes the work done and points out the inadequacies of thisdissertation and the direction of future work.
