Ancient City of Cyrene in North Africa is the unique colonialcity–state established by the ancient Greeks. In its long history, it hasalways played a role in the Mediterranean as an important commercialcentre. It was one of the most important city of the southern shore ofthe Mediterranean,whether it’s in the Hellenistic period and theRoman period.The Greeks colonized in the Mediterranean within a large-scalein the eighth century B.C.,but their colonization in north Africaseems to be met with resistance, they just built a municipality withinthe territory of Egypt, and made a success in Libya to build acity-state. Though the ancient Greeks in north Africa were limited, theGreek world all involved in the process of the colonization. Thisarticle will try to explore the reasons for the ancient Greek colonial inLibya at the time of the Greek Colonization.This paper will take the reasons of Cyrene`s foundation on thecolonial movement to study. The writer will take the study of Cyrene`s foundation respectively from the aspects of economy,religion, cultural. Economic factors as the ancient Greeks internaldynamic to colonial overseas is always an important key. It mainlyincludes three main aspects of population, resources, environment.The second chapter will discuss the factors of water resourcessituation, agriculture, population growth of Greek world and Threa.At the same time to explore the oracle of Delphi how to play animportant role in the colonial movement. As an important part inancient Greeks`life, religion inevitably affected the colonial. Theoracle to Battus is one of the direct instructions issued by the Delphioracle, it`s universal. And the third chapter will focus on the oracle ofDelphi and its interaction with the colonial movement. Because at thetime of the rise of Greek city-state is complicated, colonial movementmust beyond the scope of the Greek world. Scholars began to reflecton the influence of the Oriental civilization when Bernal issued a"black Athena”. Classical studies increasingly face up to therelationship between ancient Greece and the "Oriental" civilization now. Therefore, the fourth chapter will study from the view point ofthe influence from Oriental civilization, especially the role ofPhoenician.
