Li Peifu-the writer of Henan province, focuses on the sheep land (so-called"xudi") wherehe was born in and grew up with deep feeling. Since1978, his serialized works have gained wideimpact in the literary world, such as river novels《Clan》,《Golden House》《,Sheep’s Gate》, andnovelettes《Red Locusts and Green Locusts》,《Hei Qing Ting》,《A Myriad of Morning》,《PeesSteal Trees》,《Garden City》,《Limner》. We can feel that we have implanted in the plains whenwe read his works. We will be moved by the authenticity and vitality of the stories. Li Peifuprovides us a vivid picture of people’s real life including laughters and tears, happiness and sadness,love and hate. Li Peifu shows his grave concerns over the reality of the local people. In his works,he reveals the weaknesses of their characteristics-fear of power, selfness, cowardice, improvidence,as well as their honesty. He explores the modernization of the country from his unique perspective.His highly-developed sense of social responsibility as an intellectual deserves our admiration.The these falls into four parts. First, a section analyzes the lingering heart plain complex ofLi Peifu, the local lifestyle and characteristics of the people living in the vagarious land. Second, asection is devoted to the analysis of the unique"country power" that Li Peifu describes in his works,his particular viewpoints about the characteristics of country people, and his creative thought on themodernization of country.Third, a section points out the special literary value and actual value ofLi Peifu’s works. Finally, it states the special style of his writings, lays fingers on his achievementsand defects, and points out the aspects that should be explored in the future within the context ofHennan country novels.
