At that time theyprovided religious and mental comfort, medical and fertility services, business andmarriage intermediary service for the women. They are an integral part of women‘sdaily life the large groups in Ming and Qing Dynasty. Compared to the other womenin the same period, they have some unique characteristics. Because of these traits theyare different from ordinary women and this make them suffered from criticism, andbecame the target of literati attacks. However, the services they provide, cannot bereplaced by any other men at that time. In the late Ming Dynasty, some changesemerged in this group. |
