According to the author’s understanding the influence of the native language on the second language acquisition is an important aspect in language learning and teaching. This research is of the Mongolian ethnic group in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. According to the author’s learning experience, learning English as a foreign language in the Chinese environment is not an easy thing. It is very important to compare the foreign language to native language when the learner learns the new language. But, there is a little work about the contrastive study between English and Mongolian. So this research is going to do a contrastive analysis in English and Mongolian. The research is aiming to find out the similarities and differences in the two languages and make learning easy for the Mongolian learners. The contrastive study analysis in this paper focuses on syntactic structure of the two languages. This research is going to describe analysis and discuss the syntactic structure of the two languages that will be presented by some examples. The examples listed in this thesis are mainly from grammar books commonly used in the middle schools. This research hopes that the result of the study can be applied by the language learners and language teachers in their practical work.This paper includes five chapters, in order of introduction, literature review, description of syntactic structure, discussion, contrastive analysis of the sentences in English and Mongolian and conclusion. In the part of introduction, introduces the background of the present situation of English learning in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In the literature review discusses a contrastive analysis of linguistic and syntactic structure and presents the relevant literature at home and abroad. The part of the description of syntactic structure in English and Mongolian is mainly classified into the components and structures in the two languages. The discussion and analysis of sentence in the two languages is the main part of this thesis. This part includes the contrastive analysis of simple sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence and compound-complex sentence in two languages. In the last part of conclusion, gives the major findings, implications, and limitations of the study and future research expectations listed here.
