Peking opera was elected on the protection list of world’s intangiblecultural heritage in2010. Peking opera makeup, as an important part ofthe visual stage, got more attention. There are two face types in Pekingopera makeup:“ugly makeup” and “beautiful makeup”. People like thefirst one by the variety of pattern, color, position, material, technology,structure and so on. So far in nineteenth Century, Peking opera makeuphas been developed and innovated. However, this traditional art showed astylized solid state in the contemporary context. Facing with thisweakness, we started to research on visual symbols of Peking Opera mask.Firstly, Combing it history and types to improve the cognitive of Pekingopera makeup’s visual symbol elements, then getting the further knowingabout " face" pattern, color, craft, material, structure, the spatialrelationship between them ontological connotation and four specificperformance in the design:the first, how to using the varieties of Pekingopera makeup’s spectral type in costume design; the second, how toimprove the color of Peking opera makeup in decoration design; the third,the dimension of relevance with the visual signal of Peking opera makeup;the fourth, how to using “Hua Lian” module psychology of spatialrelationship to designing the newspaper layout. Basic on Symbolic visual function and correlation. Finally, according to the" face" symbolicanalysis and properties is summarized, daring to Peking Opera" face"symbol in the current application of the functional fixedness problem putforward three solutions.
