The painting art is no exception. In thewestern traditional painting art from the Renaissance to the realism, romanticism, realism, neoclassical in eighteenth and nineteenth century, each period has its aesthetic orientation.Nowadays, with the development of photography and information technology, the traditionalpainting art is forced to pursuit the nature of painting, which renewed vigor from the declineto the contemporary art. In the situation of the pluralistic development, the painting in the faceof “the end of art” has been the opposite side of traditional and modern art. Since the1970s,European and American painting gradually emerged with a different style of painting–“newpainting,” it overcomes the limitation of traditional painting and takes on a rich and colorfulappearance. This paper analyses the contemporary figurative painting from its background, philosophical basis and features. Finally the paper concludes that the so-called western representational paintingrefers to the return of the traditional western painting return, which is not to simply withdrawn. It has profound culture, art history background and the connotation of works. Showing their positive attitudes towards the modernist painting, the new-painting artists regard themodernist painting as one part of the traditional painting and derive rich nourishment fromit. This paper analysis characteristic of the western contemporary figurative painting, it alsodiscusses the influence of the creative work with many features.
