Metaphor is not only a rhetorical literary expression, but also abasic part of the human experience,as well as the foundation of a type ofcognitive style. Metaphors in languages reflect the way people think,behave and their character. Eat as a metaphor is common in almost alllanguages, the metaphor of eat is very common in both Chinese andVietnamese.the metaphors for the word eat in both Chinese and Vietnamese areconsidered in this dissertation. Taking the theoretical use and methodologyof the metaphors as the guidance, the dissertation allows theidentification of the original meaning of eat and its devemlopment intoa metaphor by using the point of view of eat, both philosophically andculturally. Evaluation of the eat vocabularyin Chinese andVietnameses used to discuss further the relationship between themetaphor in both languages. Additionally, this dissertation also discussesthe difference and reasoning of the eat metaphor in both languages andproves the universal cognitive and cultural correlation of the eatmetaphor. |
