Inchoate period of the Qing Dynasty is generally considered as a specialtransforming stage for Jingdezhen porcelains, it was the time where various diversitiesexisted. Under this social turmoil time with less control from the feudal official force,Jingdezhen porcelain industry came into a new era where free development andcapitalizing process became possible.It results dramatic changes in the style and design of the products,assimilated manyprevailing elements from painting, calligraphy and several other art forms, in whichbecame the unique Shunzhi-pre Kangxi Style. The unstable environment within thisturbulent time also caused more uncertainties on the trend of this porcelain industry.In order to review this interesting route of development, and to establish an accurateand scientific method on dating studies, the author developed this discussion based on theexisting historical documents about200cases, combined with many other authorizedreferences.By considering those limitations we facing on lack of evidential materials as well asrare unearthed relic samples, the research was conducted in the archaeological way, andaided with views from art perspectives, to analyze ware shapes and ornamentation motifs;to discuss the reasons and major influences, thus determine the discussion onperiodization. The author concluded this period into six different sections, and definedthe years of1648-1680as the crucial forming stage of the early Qing Dynasty style.This article also illustrated several controversial topics on these academic studies,made a few suggestions on dating results, explained the cultural influences at the timemade to the products which may caused the transformation, as well as many otherhistorical and political reasons.
