Competition on basic skills of undergraduate music students (Teacher Education)in institutes of higher education, organized by the Ministry of Education, aimed atimplementing the requirements, namely “improving the quality of higher educationâ€and “strengthening teacher team buildingâ€, which were proposed in the17th NationalCongress of the Communist Party. It also aimed to push forward the reform anddevelopment of Music Study (Music Education), promote fairness in education,highlight the quality of teaching,improve the quality of personnel training, and showprofessionalism and mental outlook of the current generation of music students(Teacher Education) in universities.I observed the whole process of the sixth “Pearl River·Kayserburg Pianoâ€competition on basic skills of undergraduate music students (Teacher Education) ininstitutes of higher education, and recorded a video of the show and the comments ofjudges. I also collected a great deal of first-hand relevant information throughinterviews and surveys. Based on the information obtained, this paper provides anobjective description of the competition and a detailed analysis of the performance ofits participators from five aspects, comprising fundamental theories of music, singingwith piano accompaniment, singing, piano performance, and other instrumentperformance. It points out the problems of participators’ performance and makes anumber of recommendations on the implementation of the courses associated withMusic Education, based on the problems shown in the competition. |
