The Research On Interestingness Of Chinese Modern Prose

Since the “May Fourth” New Culture Movement, China’s modern prose haveabsorbed western prose style, inherited the essence of Chinese traditional culture,mixed various expressions of categories of arts and made brilliant achievement. It hasformed a new situation of modern prose, which is various, vast and flourishing. Itsaesthetic characteristics are unique and distinct.Interestingness is a very important category of literary theory. It is often used as ameasure of literature value. In the classical aesthetic theory,“interestingness” iscombined with two aesthetic terms, those are,“interesting” and “flavor”. The twoaesthetic concepts are taken as the breakthrough points of this paper. I survey theprocesses of their aesthetic derivation respectively, then summary their aestheticmeanings. Only in this way, we can have more comprehensive, deep and originalunderstanding and views of interestingness.Interest of prose stems from the aesthetic functions and values of prose worksthemselves. They are characterized by the entertainment, knowledge and ideologicalcontent in prose works.Interesting prose can entertain writers as well as readers. It brings us sensualpleasures and spiritual enjoyment. This paper researches the entertaining andaesthetic functions of interesting prose mainly through detached contemplation,writing freely and humorously, being beneficial to pleasure and knowledge, etc.Knowledge of prose refers to workers’ rich knowledge and experience displayed intheir interesting works that is rich in content. This paper researches the thick culturalconnotation and interesting knowledge of humanity in interesting prose sharing theinsights of creating subject and prose texts.Ideological content in prose refers to the significance of the image systemdescribed in prose works, that is, the social significance of the life phenomena andsubjective assessment reflected in the works. Ideological content in interesting proseworks depends on the writers’ world outlook and their skills of grasping and reflecting life.Writers’ aesthetic creation is restricted not only by the interest of their own, butalso by many other factors, such as, writers’ concept of value, emotion, attitude,personality, etc. When writing prose, essayists should be guided by profoundphilosophical consciousness. They should have independent consciousness of life. It’snecessary to reveal self-worth in their works. They keep relaxed and humorousmindset; grasp aesthetic taste of prose creation correctly. They have acute observationand outstanding imagination, and then bring the aesthetic feeling of interestingnessfor readers. They attach importance to nurturing own aesthetic quality, stick to theaesthetic standpoint of interest literature. If so, prose will show more exuberantartistic vitality.In conclusion, the modern significance of the research on interestingness ofChinese modern prose includes, keeping coruscating the spirituality of creationsubjects and displaying freedom of life; keeping accumulating indispensablefundamental literacy of creation subjects; keeping acute observation and deepemotional experience. At the same time, prose creation should comply with the rulesof art aesthetic appreciation. It cannot cater to vulgar taste in violation of the law tothe aesthetic appreciation. We should pursue healthy literature interest.
