The structure“S bi N haiN”is a kind of virtual comparative sentence with the largest subjective quantityhighlighting the main attributes of the comparative subject “S” among“bi”-construction groups. These structures “S bi N A”,“S bi N geng A”,“S bi N haiA” and “S bi N hai N” constitute a semantic continuum from highlighting objectivequantity to highlighting subjective quantity, from real comparison to virtualcomparison and from small quantity to large quantity. In the meantime, we perform ananalysis of subjectivity of “S bi N hai N”. In addition, we describe the characteristicsof “bi N hai N” in the network titles in detail and explain the reasons for its extensiveuses in the network titles.Part IV: We analyze the acceptability of “bi N hai N” based on some theories of pragmatics such as and cognitive linguistics. The joint effects of the cooperationprinciple and politeness principle, plus the semantic interpretation between pragmaticpresupposition and context act as the pragmatic motivations. Besides, prototypecategorization theory, metaphor and metonymy theory from the cognitive aspectexplain the acceptability of “bi N hai N”.Part V: We apply the theory of "blending", combined with the synchronic anddiachronic levels, to explain the generating mechanism of “bi N hai N”, and finallywe make a detailed description of three kinds of variables of “bi N hai N” which arecomponent deletion variable, strong twisted variable and extended parts of speechvariable.
