Study On The Difference Between "bu4" And "mei2" From Their Collocation With Verbs

There are many ways of negation in Chinese,but the mostly used one is to form anegative construction with the negative words "bu4" and "mei2". This paper is going toexamine the collocations with modern Chinese verbs with these two negative words andtry to prove that verbs with semantic feature of [+static]、[+controllable]、[-performed]、[-change] could only be negatived by "bu4" or used in the construction of"mei2+V+guo4",verbs with semantic feature of [+static]、[-controllable]、[-performed]、[-change] could only be negatived by "bu4", verbs with semantic feature of [-static]、[-controllable]、[+performed]、[+change] could only be negatived by "mei2" and verbswith semantic feature of [-static]、[+controllable]、[±performed]、[±change] could alsobe negatived by "bu4" and "mei2".Once verbs that could be negatived by both the two words is used to make a negativesentence, which negative word should be used is determined by the narrative angel and theexterior time of the sentence. Predicate verbs with semantic features of [±performed] and[+subjective] should choose "bu4" while others with semantic features of [+performed]and [-subjective] should be negatived by "mei2".The paper includes five parts. The first chapter is about the meaning, aim, and themethod of the study. The second one is a literature review,in which we will introduce andcomment those theory which has strong influence such as the theory of temporalrestriction.The third chapter is about the distribution of these two words and some characteristicand laws of the collocation with other part of speech.Basing on the investigation of the collocation with2170verbs embodied in 《usageof Chinese verbs》and these two negative words, the next chapter will sort out these verbsinto four types by some distinguish forms.The last chapter will analysis the result of the classification and figure out somecharacteristics or laws about the collocation with verbs and these two negative words.Finally we will reach the conclusion of this study that the difference of the semanticfeatures on the essence to serve the Chinese language teaching.
