The Relationship Between Perfectionism, Self-efficacy,Mental Control Source And Meaning Of Life

College period is an important stage that university students transformed intoadults. It’s the key period that their life philosophy take shape and also easily to thinkand question their existence. College students’ suicide events occur frequently now,except external pressure factors, individual life meaning missing is one of the maincauses.Most existing researches on life meaning focus on the factors of gender, age,economy, family breeding and other individual factors, few to pay attention to thefactor of individual characteristics. As an internal stability factor, individualcharacteristics affect persons’ cognition and behaviors. So studying the influence ofcollege students’ personality characteristics on life meaning has important theoreticaland realistic significance. Based on the analysis of researches on life meaning bothdomestically and abroad and combining with Chinese college students’ psychologicalperformance, this study aimed to detective the relationship between Chinese collegestudents’ perfectionism and their life meaning by using quantitative method. Weinvestigated1686college students of ten universities in Tianjin by scale involvedperfectionism and related variables and discussed the moderate role of mental controlsource and the relationship of perfectionism and life meaning. It was found that:firstly, there were significant differences on variables of gender, age, major, gradebetween life meaning and perfectionism. Secondly, the life meaning, perfectionism,self-efficacy and mental control source existed significant difference (p<0.01, p<0.05).The perfectionism can predict the level of individual life meaning. Thirdly, structureequation model show that the pursuit of perfection high standards dimension not onlyaffect individual life meaning felling, also affect life meaning by moderate variablesof self-efficacy and mental control source. In other words, self-efficacy and mentalcontrol source play moderate roles in the relationship of pursuit high standardsdimension and life meaning feeling.
