On the basis of dangerous and arduous lives and social practice, boat ballads ofYoushui River were created by the public who worked on the boats. They are a uniquefolk ballad with complex and rich contents, intense and unconstrained, loud andsonorous tone, rapid and clangorous rhythm, desolate and solemn style. They are alsothe invaluable Intangible Cultural Heritage passed on by generations and generations.During the research, the author emphasizes on the connotation of the boat ballad,referring the current research situation. This research is as following three parts:The formation of the boat ballads. This paper aims to sort out the connectionamong the ballads, Youshui River and the social life of the sailors from the historicaland geographical situation of Youshui River and the lives’ condition of the sailors. It’ssaid that there will not be boat ballads of Youshui River without the Youshui River andthe dangerous and arduous lives of the sailors. This paper wants to show this fact so thatthe reader can learned that the boat ballads were not created by god or inspiration. Theboat ballad were outcomes of millennium social lives and practice of the public.The reflection of Youshui boat ballads. This part is mainly discussing the socialand cultural life contained in the boat ballads. In this part, the author discusses the folkfaith, historical legends, social customs, public feeling and public spirits in the Basin ofYoushui River. In spite of the analysis of the related cultural connotation, the authorputs emphasis on the public spirits contained in the boat ballads which are dauntlessheroism, united and cooperative spirits and free attitudes towards lives. Through thedeploration of spiritual level, the research can exceed the surface so as to achieve acertain theoretical depth.The thinking of value of the boat ballads. In this part, firstly, the author divided theresearch into two parts: one is to discuss the article value of the boat ballads as well asthe literature value and musical value; another one is the thinking of cultural value ofthe boat ballads which are classified into three categories—the peak of ethnic and localpoetic perfection, the reflection of Youshui River’s history and the continuance ofYoushui River’s spirits.
