It not only was related to their owncharacteristic,but inseparable from the contemporary social background. Viewingfrom the literature and culture, this paper will be focus on analyzing the developmentof the Wu dialect novels and trying to have their whole grasp.The first part of this paper includes the definition of Wu dialect novels, thedevelopment of Wu dialect novels, the present research situation of Wu dialect novelsand the significance of this paper.The second part will contrast analysis on Wu dialect novels viewed on subjectchoice, narrative style,characters and dialectal Characteristics in literary level. Wudialect novels had the twists development from human novel to narrow the novelhuman evil and finally narrow the humanized novels in the choice of subject. Thenarrative style of Wu dialect novels gave the traditional all-effective narrativeperspective way to limited angle of view. The characters of Wu dialect novelsdeveloped from common to individual character, the old to the new. The proportion ofthe Wu dialect were running low from full text using Wu dialect to Wu dialect and themandarin may in the Wu dialect novels.The third part of the paper mainly analyzed from the following three aspects.First was the introduction about the region characteristic of the South of YangtzeRiver. Wu dialect was the embodiment of the South of Yangtze River culture. The folkcustoms depicted in the novel were unique local characteristics. Second was inheritingand understanding Chinese traditional civilization, Chinese traditional culture,especially the literati feelings, in these literary works had been reflected to a certainextent. As the introduction of western civilization, this kind of traditional culturegradually eliminated and varied. One more was description of the western culture, asa combination of Chinese and western cultures and new old mixed zone, Shanghaishowed in the Wu dialect novels, were full of new culture breath everywhere.
