The themes of Du Liang’s novels are mainly about revolutionary history, youthand growth as well as ordinary citizens in Beiping. His new description aboutrevolutionary history is peculiar in portraying the warfare and he also creates heroicfigures while recreating villainous characters objectively. Du deeply rethinks wars andpolitical movements such as Cultural Revolution and expresses his high praise to life,dignity and courage. Through personalized memories and bantering rewriting aboutCultural Revolution, his novels show a different youth of one generation and portraytwo distinct subculture groups, compound children and alley children, which he takesas liberalist spirit on the way. Moreover, He analyses the bottom of society and therelationships between nation and individual, money and morals to express his careabout their destinies. Especially, he expresses his attachment and criticism abouttraditional culture by describing the citizens’ language and culture in Beiping.
