With the rapid social and economic development, the furnitureindustry have focused on the growing middle and high-end consumers,toresearch the user needs of the middle and high-end consumers is veryimportant. Their lifestyle and behavioral characteristics will bring newchallenges to the furniture design. Although the domestic furniture industryis unprecedented prosperity, but the domestic high-end furniture brand isvery scarce in currently. Therefore the study about the user needs offurniture products for middle and high crowd is much-needed.This study is aimed at the family living room sofa, analyzing ofexisting sofa materials, colors, morphological features and functionalitybased on the involved studies of home and abroad. Through user interviewand observation to in-depth understanding the lifestyle and behavioralcharacteristics of the domestic middle and high-end consumer groups. Thensummarize the individual needs and design questionnaire. Through questionnaire survey and sample data statistical analysis to find thedifferences needs of different gender and age on the sofa, and combininghome environmental factors proposed the design concept for the domesticmiddle and high-end consumers. Eventually, by evaluating the productconcept to reveal some remaining drawbacks and problems, and further, toimproving the design.This article takes a close and careful look at the lifestyle andbehavioral characteristics of middle and high consumers as breakthrough ofsofa design research, so that the importance of user needs and close tiesbetween demands and solutions could be considered as a premise to guidethe practice design.
