Way-finding system is one of the important facilities that provide humanized service and standardize the order of society, it has already been applied in our daily life. Nowadays, university libraries are not only pursuing the morden fashion but also building comfortable reading atmospheres for readers by regional planning. As the spatial arrangement and the organization structure become more and more complicated, users often faced with the problems of finding difficult when they stay in such a big library. Because of the lack of the exploration of user behavior pattern, the design is not involved by respecting the user behavior and user demands, ignored this core issue to construct university library way-finding system. The paper is set up the principle of way-finding system based on user behavior through user tests and user-centered. The feasibility is increased based on analysis of user behavior, users experience and the problems in reality during operations. The paper is divided into two parts to fulfill these goals, during the first part, Find the exist problems of library way-finding system by user tested and analyzed. Data are collected by five methods, including questionnaires before experiment, task analysis, thinking aloud, user interviews and focus group. Take libraries in Japanese Kumamoto University and Xing Long Mountain campus of Shandong University as examples, exist problems of library way-finding system design are compared and analyzed, It is founded the basic elements of users-oriented modern library way-finding system design, the design principle aiming at users behavior and demands is summarized and proposed. Then refinement the principle to concreted the sub-criteria.During the second phase, the research achievement in the first phage is applied-the principle established previously is applied to actual design cases and application the conclusions of the user tests. Finally, the trend of way-finding system design is prospected. The paper uses way-finding system as research target and focus on user behavior and demands. Propose a design process of a brand new way-finding system, and set up a way-finding system design principle which conforms to user behavior pattern and psychological demand. This increases accuracy greatly by combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis together, and by combining subjective testing and objective testing.
