With the rapid leap forward of economic and technological highly developed age has brought Western society into a post-industrial period. The writers have found that the traditional novel technique of expression, has no longer accurate representation of the world’s broken and messy, they need a new technique of expression to show the chaos and frantic nature of the world. With this social background, a large number of post-modern fictions with new performance elements came into the reader’s perspective. Postmodernist fiction is the "art of broken to fight Broken World," Therefore, the post-modernist literature showing a strong experimental in the text level (rather than the depth and meaning clear) with a distinctive the post-modern characteristics to establish its unique position in the literary arena. The introduction will be a brief account of the historical background of modern literature, representative works and the main features of "Gravity’s Rainbow" at home and abroad research situation.
