Fluency plays an important role in consecutive interpreting. It is even regarded as oneof the criterions for the evaluation of an interpreter’s output and regarded as a veryimportant one. Therefore, lack of fluency in an interpreter’s delivery can seriously hinderhis or her performance. This study investigates disfluencies in a Chinese-Englishinterpretation at the “2012Shanghai Forum-A dialogue between experts and the public”.It explores the causes of these disfluencies by comparison of the source speech transcribedand translated into English called here an “ideal interpretation” with the outputinterpretation and the interpreter’s notes. Based on the found origins of the disfluencies, itposes solutions to this problem that can be adapted by other students of the consecutiveinterpreting. This paper researches lack of fluency indicated mainly by fillers and silentpauses. This study can hopefully contribute to the research in the field of consecutiveinterpretation.
