Report On Chinese Translation Of The2Chapters In A History Of American Business

The economic history is the historical gradual progress of the economy. Itinvolves specific process and law of economic system and economic relationsdevelopment and evolution of human society in various historical periods anddifferent countries or regions. The economic history plays an important role ineconomics study. However, domestic translation works in this field is limited. AHistory of American Business, one of the famous works of the C. Joseph Pusaterieconomic history series, describes the development of American business history. Thisbook now has no Chinese version. With copious historical information, the book, bothacademic and humanistic, has great translation value. But as a academic history work,the translation practice is challenging. Chapters12and13(the first three quarters) ofthe book, mainly describes the rise of auto mobile, retail and broadcast and the furtherdevelopment of the steel, oil and other industries since the20th century. Thetranslation report, on the basis of translation of the two chapters, was divided into fourparts. Part one presents an introduction to the book and gives the reasons why thewriter choose this book as translation source text. The second part gives the preparingand timings of the translation practice. As the core part of this paper, the third partconcludes the difficulties and the translation approaches, such as word, sentencetranslation skills. It also explains the translation tools and resources use. The fourthpart then explains the experience conclusion of the translation practice. It gives theremaining translation issues and concludes that a good translator requires not only agood Chinese and English command as well as the translation theoretical knowledge,but also a deeply understanding of background knowledge. Besides, a serious andresponsible attitude towards translation is of great importance.
