The officialdom was portrayed in various periods in the history of Chinese literature. Since the1990s, the prosperity and development of the officialdom novels has had new characteristics and content. It is inheritance and innovation of previous accomplishments and continuation of traditional culture.Among many officialdom novel writers, Wang Yuewen is one of writers of higher achievement. With the mentality of compassion and narrative art, Wang Yuewen depicted an original official picture full of characteristics of real life based on his own observation and experience of real officialdom. Partly owing to the consciousness of anxiety and criticism presented in his novels as well as unique artistic style and creativity, Wang Yuewen attracts much attention and ranks among the most favorite official fiction authors. This thesis is divided into four parts apart from the introduction and conclusion, which is interpreted from a new angle of view. It not only demonstrates official way of life but also perceives and analyzes political culture and the narrative art of Wang Yuewen’s official novels. The creative features of novels are analyzed related to Wang Yuewen’s life experience. The introduction is a brief summary of current research and significance of the topic. The focus and innovation is mainly reflected in the analysis of the national character and narrative. The first chapter analyzes the factors affecting Wang Yuewen’s official fiction, which consists of officialdom years, family and Huxiang Culture. The second chapter mainly discusses people’s survival situation in officialdom from the perspective of dissimilation of power and erosion of humanity. The third chapter is devoted to illustrating political culture of officialdom, particularly the unspoken rules of bureaucracy and the author’s compassion and frustration showed in his novels. Besides, the bureaucratic sub-culture is analyzed mainly in terms of the deeply-rooted bad habits of citizens in the officialdom. The forth chapter compares the narrative features of Wang Yuewen’s official novels with those of other official writers’. Those narrative features include metaphor, symbolism, irony, absurdity, complete point of view, limited point of view, point of view and blind spots, among which the unique aesthetic art of Wang Yuewen’s novels is emphasized. The conclusion is a sum of deficiencies, which involves in the one-dimensional view of sex and overemphasis of power and sense of self-reflection. It is also a writer’s comparison.
