Critical thinking, which makes use of the reasonable evaluating principle to confirm truthfulness of something and make the judgment which based on truthfulness, meanwhile, it is vital to break original thinking set. Only we break the original model of thinking of our own, the valuable and creative questions can be conducted, finally we can make ourselves become creative elite. Therefore, the priority is to cultivate the spirit of critical thinking in order to cultivate creative elite. We aim at investigating the situation of critical thinking for English major college students. In order to enhance and cultivate the quality of critical thinking for English major college students, we should investigate the situation of their critical thinking and evaluate their critical thinking skill correctly, meanwhile the research can give the reference for the development of English teaching later.The thesis select180English major college students from one comprehensive university in northeast of China, Using the quantitative and qualitative analysis methods to survey current situation of critical thinking and critical thinking skill for subjects, the main questions researched are the characters of subjects’critical thinking disposition and critical thinking skill; whether there are significant differences in the critical thinking disposition and critical skills from different grades; whether there are some relations between critical thinking disposition and critical thinking skill.From the conclusion of this research, we may get the following conclusion. Firstly, subjects’critical thinking disposition have positive trend of development. The six subscales:Truth-Seeking, Open-Mindedness, Analyticity, Systematicity, Inquisitiveness, Mature get positive value, while Self-confidence gets negative value. Secondly, there are no significant differences among critical thinking disposition during four grades,but Analyticity, Self-Confidence, Inquisitiveness show a statistically significant difference. Thirdly, from the results of critical thinking skill, we may find the six skills of the critial thinking of subjects from different grades have significant difference. Ultimately, the Systematicity of subjects’performance is related to the Interpretation, Analyticity, Inference, Explanation skills. On the basis of the result above, the thesis mainly discusses the influence of English teaching mode, learners’language level and cultural factors on critical thinking disposition and skills of subjects.
