As a communication tool, the main function of language is to deliver information in different language environments. Literary works contain a wealth of cultural background knowledge, which are important means of learning a language and promoting the communication of people living in different language environments. Translating foreign literary works is conducive not only to expanding the vision of Chinese readers and helping us perceive foreign cultures, but also to improving readers’taste in literature and languages. At a higher level, the translation of foreign literary masterpieces can also make a certain amount of contribution to the advancement of international cultural exchanges. This translation practice report is based on a translation project in which the author is entrusted by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP). The author’s translation task includes Chapterl6, parts of Chapterl7and Chapter12of the famous work, Aaron’s Rod, written by Lawrence. Because this English novel has no Chinese version, the translation text will be first published as an "e-book.’Through analyzing the instances in the translated text, this report is focused on two aspects:one is the translation of common rhetorical devices in English literature; the other is the translation of special sentence patterns in English literature. Accordingly, the author draws a conclusion on how to teach literature translation to MTI students.
