Ge Hong, called himself Bao Puzi. He lived during the thansitionalperiod between the Western and Eastern Jin Dynasties. Ge Hong was afamous Taoist thinker and the founder of external elixir studies and Taoisttheology. His main book, Bao Puzi, especially its core chapters, is animportant work of theological Taoism and has been huge influentialthrough the ages."Qi" in its core chapters is a philosophy categorywhich is changing development constantly and energetic."Qi", wemay say, is one string of core chapters. But the research of the "Qi"scope was too narrowly focused and less attention has been paid tothe Taoist concepts of "Qi" by predecessors whereas others have muchmore. This study utilizes longitudinal and cross-sectional research, from"Dao" discusses extending to "Qi", and then it is possible to explain "Dao"using "Qi"."Qi" is considered the embodiment of "Dao". We strive hard touse "Qi" interpretation of understanding the core chapters in order tohighlight the important position in the Taoist philosophy. This study bases upon the text of core chapters."Qi" can be dividedinto two categories: those who generated and Daoist incantations. Theformer can be connected with "Dao" directly, such as yin and yang, Qioriginating from cloud and air. The latter involve congenital Qi andacquired Qi, the holism of body and spirit, celestial theory. To achievethe effect of health care, it rely on the joint outcome of internal forceincludes qi-promoting method like Tao Yin, genuine foetal respiration and inedia, and external force namely take the Golden elixir.Ge Hong held the view that Qi is quite more difficult to raise than todamage. It must make "Qi" a permanent part of the body. The idea of"Qi" not only has an important impact on the following Taoism but alsohas a very important value and significance on building medicinesystems today. However, Ge Hong recognized the existence of theimmortal, and firm that we should pay attention to the immortal way.His ultimate goal is pursuing longevity. We should treat the limitscritically.
