“VV yi” is a common structure in the spoken Shanghai dialect, andthe past research is mainly about syntactic description. The thesis plansto make a deep study and analysis about the structure, including theinternal components, syntactic features, semantic features and thegrammaticalization of “yi”, from different angles. The thesis divides intosix chapters.Chapter1is the preface part. We introduce the purpose andsignificance of the selected topic and the current studying situation.Then point the problems the thesis mainly discusses and the theoriesand methods that use in the thesis, and introduce the source oflanguage materials.Chapter2examines how “VV yi” structure selects the verb “V” andthe performance and function of “yi” in Shanghai dialect. On this basis,divide the structure into “VV yi1” and “VV yi2”.“VV yi1” is composed bytransitive verbs, while “VV yi2” is composed by intransitive verbs.Chapter3makes a study about the syntactic features, from threeangles, including abilities to become components of sentences,combination functions and distribution.Chapter4make a analysis about the semantic features, from coremeaning, derived meaning and form meaning. Then explain themeaning of “yi” in different types.Chapter5demonstrate the grammaticalization process of “yi”according to the different characteristics of “yi”, and reveal it by the grammaticalization process of “ta” in Putonghua. Then explain themotives of “VV yi” from syntax, semantics and cognition linguistics. Atlast, discuss the pronoun anaphora type disposal of “yi” in Shanghaidialect.Chapter6is the conclusion part. It summarizes the thesis and pointsout the problems we can further study.
