Discuss About ’Exceptional Interpretations’ On Modern And Contemporary Chinese Zheng Music

We live in a world where modern composers have written a glamorous mix of Gu Zheng music. Out of all these fantastic works the author will investigate three Gu Zheng pieces written by Minoru Miki. These works are called<The Greening>、<Wind&Squall> and<Rhapsody>. This essay will focus on the diversified Chinese Gu Zheng music development, from the perspective of ’exceptional interpretations’in the style of Chinese Gu Zheng performance practice.The essay consists of introduction, main body (3parts) and conclusion. Part1from the main body will introduce the life and achievements of Minoru Miki. Miki’s life experience will help in analysing of his overall composing style for Gu Zheng music. Examples of his music being circulated in China will also be given in Part1. Part2will divided into4sections. Part2will firstly compare the Gu Zheng making in China and Koto making in Japan. The comparison will be based on the shape of these instruments and the quality of strings in order to find out the similarities and differences; Part2will then look into the different interpretations of <The Greening>、<Wind&Squall> and <Rhapsody> performed by virtuosos from China and Japan, before it moves on to the comparison in aesthetic conceptions in Arts between China and Japan. In Part3the author will expound the point on referring to’exceptional interpretations’when it comes to contemporary Gu Zheng music, through practical experience for<The Greening>、<Wind&Squall> and<Rhapsody>.
