Brief Discussion On Huagudeng Drums

An explanation of Anhui flower lantern drum, an art form popular along the Huai River, is presented at the beginning of the paper, including elaboration on several editions of its possible origins as well as its formation and development, according to both the folklore and the official record.The paper proceeds with an intensive study on the percussion part of the Anhui flower lantern drum. The first point is its classification, followed by discussion on the effective combination of the different timbre of percussion instruments in order to achieve harmony in sound, as well as the distinct roles each kind of instrument plays in the performance. Then, original forms and different performing skills of percussion instruments are introduced. The fourth point mainly deals with the specific forms during percussion performance from aspects of rhythm, beat and interesting percussion sentence. Next, the paper explains the importance of percussion section in the performance of Anhui flower lantern drum and its relationship with the dance within Anhui flower lantern drum. Finally, we state the significance of Anhui flower lantern drum to our society granted its development to today.
