The essay is an analysis and study of an important style of pop music in Chinese language---R&B. As a musical style, R&B not only has a history of more than70years in America but also plays an important role on the pop music stage all over the world. Nowadays It has become one of the most popular musical styles in the international stage. This essay talks about the beginning and development of R&B in the Chinese language district since the late1980’s. By comparing and analyzing the different singers and their related works’different detailing music reference index in America and Chinese language district, it refines Chinese R&B songs and the differences from the R&B in the international situation. And it summarizes the existence possibilities and cultural meanings of R&B in the modern society.The essay is made up of three parts, introduction, text and afterward by the author. The text is consisted of five chapters. The first chapter is "the summary of R&B", which simply summarizes the definition of R&B and analyzes the musical token of R&B in different historical periods. The second chapter is "the early Chinese R&B songs", which analyzes the earliest R&B singers and their works in Hong Kong and Tai Wan. The third chapter is "the heyday of Chinese R&B songs", which analyzes the representative singers in Tai Wan, Mainland and Singapore---Tao Zhe, Zhou Jielun, Wang Lihong, Hu Yanbin, Lin Junjie and their works. The fourth chapter is "when R&B becomes the fashionable music logo", which talks about the development of R&B in the Chinese language circle of vocal music nowadays. The fifth chapter is "at a loss what to do", which quotes the opinions and conclusions of different musicians, and the possibilities and the future of it.In conclusion, R&B, as a product of the African-American Musical culture, is one of the logical developing trends when it was combined with the eastern musical culture after it arrived at the Chinese language district. There are mainly four points of views of modern R&B singers, Chinese R&B, Native American R&B, blend of different pop music style elements R&B and adapted R&B from the others’works. Which one is better? It depends on the individual preferences of arrangers, record producers, singers and the public taste. |
