With the rapid development of human society in science, technology and culture, it has become a new trend that environment aesthetics is applied to the design of urban public space, which has promoted the development of urban public space into a new stage with outstanding results. As an necessary component of urban public space, mural art is unique and dispensable. Mural art, along with architecture, plazas, parks, roads and bridges, makes the unique images of urban public space, showing cultural and spiritual outlook of the urban public space. To guide the mural art by traditional aesthetics is easy to make designers regard mural art as isolate, contributing to the separation of mural art with environment and the audiences’ ideology. We must therefore introduce a new concept of aesthetics to guide the development of urban public space mural art with environmental aesthetics theory.This article begins with the current development of Mural art in urban public space pointing out the deficiencies in the development of murals art, and gives a profound discussion on the development of mural art in the urban public space based on the relative theory of environmental aesthetics. Then in the perspectives of expressive language and the relation with public space,the design principles and the evaluations towards mural art, the article analyses the existential state of mural art included in environmental aesthetics in urban public space. At last, the article proposes appropriate solutions for the imbalance and harmonious state between current mural art’s development and urban public space. Thus makes the development of mural art in urban public space in a much healthier and smoother way.
