The Impressionists have the courage to break of tradition and conduct pioneering experiment on oil painting. They create a large number of world masterpieces, making a brand-new appearance of France oil painting art in the19th century and further affecting the art of the Europe, even the whole world.The themes of the Impressionist painting are the reflection of the social life of the painter himself, even Monet himself takes the light color as a subject to study.Concerning the technique of expression, those painters seek for the pursuit of light effect, rather than take man as the main subject to display. In other words, in the scene in the picture, man just performs as the media of light and shadow in those paintings.Concerning shadow approach, they break the rule of using asphalt color since the Renaissance, and complementary colors are adopted in handling shadow. Unrestrained and distinct strokes techniques are unique to them. what’s more, the Impressionist painting have distinctive features in its composition, color, and stroke which have similarities with the spirit of Chinese meticulous painting for the ways of expression and painter in the expression of emotion.The whole paper contains four parts. The first part will present the historical background of the impressionism and summarize the content to the performance. The second part of the paper will give a in-depth analysis of the Impressionist figure scene painting method. The third part will view of Impressionist figure from a vision of the oriental, and thus summarize the similarities between the Impressionist painting Freehand brushwork and Chinese painting; part four is a conclusion part in which the summarizing of the whole paper and inspirations for Chinese painter will be presented.
