The various natural environment, production, living mode make the differentnational character and mentality, then shape the distinct costume styles and features, finally createthe unique feature of the costume culture appear.The Oroqen nation, one of the oldest ethic groups in the northeast China, lives a migration andhunting life. The people inhabit in the Greater Khingan Mountains and Lesser Khingan Mountains’immense forest for generations named “the people of the mountain ridgeâ€,“the reindeer userâ€. Thecostume culture of the Oroqen ethic group mainly based on the hunting pattern shows the symbolsof the custom culture and historical background which combine the harmonious application of theoriginal and natural parts.After Qing Dynasty, although the piece-goods entered, most people still put on the fur-madedress because of the high price of the cloth-made dress. It was until the end of the1950s when theQroqens were down from the mountains, their clothing turned into cloth-made ones graduallywhich still kept the fur-made ones’ style.Nowadays, the Qroqens’ casual dress is merged with the Han nation generally, but they wouldput on their folk costume during their own festival to perform the Oroqens’ costume charmprotecting its costume culture.The “Roe deer leather making technology†of the Oroqens’ art has been listed into theintangible cultural heritage of China with the epoch-making significance. The development of theOroqens’ costume dress and commercialization couldn’t be ignored. The protection is urgent. TheOroqens’ costume culture reflects the value of the aesthetics, literacy and academic researchsignificantly.This paper lays a theoretical basis on the Oroqens’ costume culture research throughon-the-spot investigation and learning and the pictures material collection. Firstly, it sets forth thegeography environment, the historical development and the costume culture origin of the Oroqen.Secondly, it summarizes the Oroqens’ costume overall, namely, denovo clothing, clothing, foottights, clothing accessories, and the ManFu gaza and cap, then the apparel and accessories design,color, pattern and decoration are analyzed. Thirdly, it explains the protection and the value of the Oroqens’ costume culture.This paper builds the foundation on the on-the-spot investigation; applying the clothingscience to explicit the value existed in the Oroqens’ costume research. It starts from the analysis ofthe costume’s form system overviewing the origin, sorts, model, pattern, color, decoration and trendof itself.
