Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), was a famous Italian virtuoso violinist, and masterof the Baroque composers. The musical genres created by Vivaldi in his life are versatile,mainly focusing on the musical works of concertos. Of the large amount of solo concertoscomposed by him, the most famous is the Four Seasons, a violin concerto, the appearanceof which promoted concertos in the Baroque period to a new height, and set a newmilestone for concertos. In the history of European music, the concerto the Four Seasonsis one of Vivaldi’s most outstanding works and the evergreen classical works inconcerts. However, the public did pay not much attention to his works until the20thcentury. With this thesis’ subject matter based on the historical and cultural backgroundof the Baroque period in the eighteenth-century and Vivaldi’s creative process andinfluences, this thesis has made an in-depth analysis of the work the Four Seasons, fromsuch perspectives as the characteristics of music titles, music forms, and musical structureand content. An overall mastery and explanation has been made on the works’ creativeapproaches and artistic content, and its characteristics of title music and humanistic valueare also presented in detail.This thesis is divided into three parts:Part One: The first chapter introduces the basis and significance of the topic ofthis paper, reviews some existing documents and research achievements, expounds thecreation intention and writing subject of this paper.Part Two: The body of the thesis. Contains second, third and fourth chapters.The second chapter describes the history of Venice, the cultural background andperiodic background, with the three periods of the creation course outline. The thirdchapter is the core content of this thesis, the comprehensive analysis of the Concerto“The Four Seasons”. The fourth chapter profoundly analyses the artistic value andenlightening significance of “The Four Seasons” through grasping the essence of thecharacteristics and heritage of program music in Vivaldi’s time from the last chapter.Part Three: Conclusion summarizing the full text.
