Gustave Flaubert is an outstanding representative of realism in19th Century.At theend of19th Century and20th Century,he produced extremely far-reaching effect to theliterature,especially to the modern literature development.In the novel, GustaveFlaubert’s death consciousness is not only a natural phenomenon in the physical deathof the death,but also refers to the spiritual emptiness and no value. Gustave Flaubert’sdeath consciousness is different from other writers’ depicting,it is more valuable thanothers’. Gustave Flaubert’s death consciousness didn’t get enough attention inacademia.Rresearch is most focused on the realistic writing style as well as for thedescription of death.But now research is not linked with the death consciousness andnihilism. Gustave Flaubert’s death consciousness has been far more than the simpledeath,but has profound significance.This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is the introduction, this partmainly introduced the domestic and international research and this paper choosesGustave Flaubert for the study of the value and significance of Gustave Flaubert’sdeath consciousness.The second part is the reason of death consciousness in his novel. In genesis fromthe individual experience of diseases and defects and changes of the times under theinfluence of two aspects of experience and he reveals the consciousness of deathcauses.
