As the most important masterpiece of vernacular conte in the late Ming dynasty,“Sanyan”has earned its significant achievements in literature, ideology and skill.“Sanyan” was attributedits unique characteristic of literature to the special background of the late Ming dynasty and tothe literary talent of Feng Menglong.“Sanyan” was written by vernacular and was integratedthe theme of marketplace. With the help of using a large number of sayings and proverbs,“Sanyan” becomes the favorite novel in the era for its language is easy to understand. Becausethe late Ming dynasty is the transition period of the development of Chinese, the basicvocabulary and general vocabulary is an important tool for researching the development ofvocabulary.The linguistic materials of the thesis are words and phrase of “Sanyan”. I got thevocabulary frequency table of “Sanyan” from arranging and accounting the words of “Sanyan”.I want to describe the features of Chinese vocabulary in the late Ming dynasty by describing thebasic vocabulary and general vocabulary of “Sanyan”. And the theses tries to find out the basicrules of the development history of Chinese vocabulary by the comparison the vocabularyfrequency table of “Sanyan” with the8000frequent words of “Dictionary of Modern Chinesevocabulary frequency”.“Sanyan is an important part of light literature in our country and is a treasure ofvernacular conte. The unique characteristic of language and its important status in studyinglanguage which are good for researching language characteristic in the late Ming dynastic andalso have significant value and meaning in studying the development of Chinese vocabulary. SoI hope I can do a favor in studying Chinese vocabulary by writing this thesis.
