| Performance is a kind of art which form and complete by performing of actors. Actor is the creator of performance art, characters and creative materials, the identity of "trinity" determine that in performing arts actors is at an important position. The Chinese actor JiangWen and Hollywood actor Sean Penn are beginning to fame in the eighties of the20th century. They are both excellent actors in the perfonning arts in the film history. Sean Penn is considered "Brando Ⅱ" of American by magazine "color", and JiangWen is"China’s Marlon Brando"by French media. From the character of temperament, performance history, to roles and the achievement, they have a lot in common in perform which is worthy of comparison and research.This paper is divided into three parts for comparative study of performing arts of JiangWen and Sean Penn. After introducing the theory and practice of Chinese and American film acting, the first part of this paper review the acting career and achievements of both JiangWen and Sean Penn, through their acting career, note the similarity of their performance locus. I compared the performances characteristics of JiangWen and Sean Penn with Marlon Brando, and I analysis their performing arts are both impact by Stanislavski and have three characteristics:authenticity, emotion and combined with roles.The second part is parallel comparison according to the similarity of roles in films of JiangWen and Sean Penn. From the shaping of roles I analysis how the two actors create their roles on the basis of maintaining the qualities themselves.And reflect their capacity of controling and shaping roles for indicating their superb performance skills.The last part from three angles(character, diversity and unity) summarized and refined that performance characteristics of JiangWen and Sean Penn are natural, distinctive,relaxative as well as harmonization with film style. |
