The words representing colors are very important whether in the modern Chinese or modern Korean and often applied to other fields. Lakoff&Johnson believe that metaphor is not just a kind of speech but a kind of thought. The metaphor is more than language phenomenon---it’s the human recognition (Metaphors We Live By,1980). From the recognition aspect, same with space, time and emotion, the color is one of the basic recognition areas. This article takes the basic words of colors (five words:black, white, red, yellow and green) in Chinese and Korean as the studying materials, explains the metaphor meanings and puts forward the teaching plan for Korean words of colors.This article is divided into five parts:Chapter1Introduction It mainly discusses the purpose and meaning of this study, the previous researching achievements, contents and method.Chapter2analyzes and compares the basic meanings of the words of colors in Korean and ChineseChapter3compares the metaphor meanings and applies a lot of practical examples as the evidences and comes to the differences and similarities.Chapter4discusses the teaching method for Korean words of colorsChapter5is the conclusion.This research has great theoretical meaning and practical value for the linguistics, foreign language teaching and intercultural communication as well as promotes the vocabulary teaching of non-native language.
