As an important part of existential sentences, the dynamicexistential sentences in the Chinese language have come into thesupporting pillar of existential sentences after thousands of years ofevolving. The notion “existence” is one of the earliest basic notions ofhuman recognition, and it can be shown in records dating back quiteearly. Whereas the research on existential sentences has startedcomparatively late and there have been few research focused ondynamic existential sentences. With the results of previous research andtaking the features of existential sentences into consideration, this thesisfocuses on dynamic existential sentences and discusses their syntacticforms, semantic and pragmatic features of all the comprising parts inorder to further the description of the common and particular featuresof dynamic existential sentences in comparison with other existentialsentences. Besides, this thesis explores the origin of dynamic existentialsentences using construction grammar theory, and reviews thediachronic evolution of dynamic existential sentences unveiling thecharacters of different phases. This thesis can be divided into sixchapters:The first chapter Introduction mainly includes the elaboration of thesignificance of the subject, introduction to the theoretical backgroundof research on dynamic existential sentences, illustration of researchmethods and language material sources, and a general introduction tothe thesis. The second chapter through the discussion of the relationshipbetween the construction grammar theory and dynamic existentialsentences, illustrates the significance of construction grammar theoryand the effect it has on the formation of dynamic existential sentences. The chapter also includes a construction analysis of dynamic existential sentences. The third chapter reviews four types of the syntactic structures ofdynamic existential sentences and their distribution. The chapter alsoreviews the prefixes and suffixes of mediated verbs (section B) indynamic existential sentences, selectively discussing the use frequency, differences and interchanges of aspect marker “着” and “了”.The fourth chapter discusses the semantic relations among theparts of dynamic existential sentences. By observing the mediatedverbs (section B) from the perspective of verb valency, we arrive at thesemantic features of mediated verbs in dynamic existential sentences. And this chapter also includes the features of section A and Crespectively. The fifth chapter analyzes the diachronic evolution of dynamicexistential sentences. It can be divided into the evolving tendency ofmediated verbs, construction frame of dynamic existential sentencesand pragmatic changes. The chapter discusses the outer motive andinner drive of the evolution of dynamic existential sentences with anattempt to describe the development and its features objectively. The sixth and also last chapter Conclusion summarizes theconclusion of the thesis and what can still be perfected.
