Writing is an overall performance of the learned knowledge, which can fully reflect the level of students’ mastery about the language. English writing has been a key and difficult task at college English teaching for a long time. During the English writing, Students are likely express their ideas in the ways of Chinese thinking, just translating Chinese into English, which is caused by the set patterns of the native language. So the whole English writings have left traces of Chinese interference in the words, sentences and structures. This article not only focuses on explaining the impact on language structures of Chinese non-English college students’ second language acquisition (English); but also proposes some useful strategies to minimize the negative transfer in writing.In the field of second language acquisition, language transfer is an inevitable phenomenon and it can be divided into positive transfer and negative transfer. The former one promotes language learning while the latter one prevents language learning and can easily lead to errors. In recent years, scholars and linguists have done many studies on native language transfer at college English teaching from different points of views home and abroad. But few have done about non-English majors’ English writing in vocational school. Based on the comparative analysis, error analysis and interlanguage theory(three important theories of language transfer), this paper analyzed the data which was collected in two different ways in-class and after-class, selected the second-year vocational students from road and highway department as subjects and analysized the writing errors from four perspectives. From many years’ study, SLA researchers have found that the most obvious errors occuring in the transfer of English learning are the pronunciation, syntax, vocabulary and culture aspects. In this paper, the common errors are categorized into punctuation, lexical, syntactic and pragmatic level in the process of analysis on the English writing and related questionnaire in order to show the real situation about their mastery of the English writing and the errors they easily make. After the analysis of data and surveys, the author found that the Chinese ways of thinking and culture have great impacts on this transfer. Then the paper puts forward some effective ways to improve students writing skills and minimize the error caused by language transfer. |
