We do C-E translation of tourist material mainly to publicize China’s tourist attractions to foreigners, so as to make our tourist culture further understood by foreign tourists and to arouse their interest in traveling to China. Because the C-E text of tourist material carries so important functions, as translators, we should choose some proper methods to optimize our translation. Based on some general principles like "faithfulness" and "smoothness" and so on, this paper combines such theories as Scopos Theory and the theory of information as well as my translation practice to elaborate the necessity and importance of annotation and deletion in C-E translation of Changsha’s religious tourist materials.Considering the different characteristics between Chinese and English, and the cultural differences of China and English-speaking countries, this paper concludes that we should apply annotation and deletion properly on the basis of the source text during the C-E translation of tourist materials, and there are some laws to follow. This paper makes a conclusion that annotation within the text and deletion of some unimportant information can better propagate ourselves.
