The paper tape of a book is the zonal printed matter which is around the book cover or the lower edge of the book. Combining the style, the graph, the colors and documents of one book, the paper tape acts as an advertisement for this book. During the sales of books, the paper tapes transmit the most important information to readers and can also attract the attentions of readers so as to make books more impressive and promote the sales of books.An analysis is made in this paper on the basis of the history of the paper tape and its current situation so as to raise the purpose and significance of research and research methodologies used in this paper. In the meanwhile, the definition and the history of the paper tapes are also introduced briefly.The design for paper tapes should best meet for the new pursuits, ideas, thoughts and aesthetics of new style of people. As a result, the design for paper tapes should be up-to-date, creative, artistic, holistic, pertinent, informative, associative and amiable. An in-depth exploration is made on the artistic expressional forms of paper tapes, such as the internal structure of designing elements for paper tapes, the edition of the advertising copy, the media vehicles and printing and production processes, etc.The paper tapes are the most common advertisements in the book. The paper tape serves as a link between one book and its readers. The paper tape should be endowed with communication values and economic values, etc. Along with the progress of the society and the development of the technology, the forms of paper tapes for books are increasingly diversified.The paper tape, an advertising media to promote the sales of books, is more and more extensively used. With the acceleration of the process of the marketization of books, there is no doubt that the paper tapes AD, would be more extensively used since the popular recreations and superficial cultures gradually become the dominant contents. As a result, problems concerning the paper tape arise one after another. The questions put forward in this paper are meant to prompt reflections of the publishing companies and designers and ask them to summarize experience so as to promote the benign development of the paper tapes of books. As the most common form for the advertisements in books, paper tapes have a brilliant future. However, on the basis of the study on the current situation of paper tapes and problems existed in the paper tapes, this paper hold the point that the problem concerning paper tapes should be faced up to and solved. Only in this way, can paper tapes, the cheap and fine book advertisements for books have a bright future. The design concept for paper tapes nowadays claims that designers should present the contents of paper tapes through bold and new ideas while carrying forward the original designs. In the meanwhile, on the basis of the existing form, designers should improve and create the new design forms so as to break the traditional set types of designs and expand the forms of the paper tapes with distinctive means of artistic expressions. The original form of paper tapes can not satisfy the demands of readers any more. People are looking forward to the incorporations of more novel ideas and thoughts into designs for paper tapes. The shift from the traditional design pattern to the new one is the transforming period that the design for the paper tape needs to go through and during which the transformation of the concept is the most important thing. In this paper, novel artistic expressional ways for the designs of the paper tapes are discussed. The main creative forms for paper tapes can be seen as follows:the innovations in the shape forms, the innovations in the shape structures and innovations in the materials and crafts, etc. Only when the paper tapes are endowed with the integration of aesthetic consciousnesses, sense of beauty in the form and the concept of innovations, can the features of paper tapers are demonstrated and the books are endowed with fresh airs.
