On Nestorianism Chirstianity Of Ancient Western Region

Nestorianism was not clearly recorded in ancient Chinese history, untill the Nestorian Tablet was unearthed in Xi’an in1625. Down to the early20th, Nestorian documents and hangovers were found in Tunhwang, Turpan, Inner Mongolia, Zaitun, Peking and Loyang, the study of Nestorianism became hotspot in the domestic and foreign academic circles several times.It seems that the Nestorianism spread into the Central Plains from the Western Region, so the spread of Nestorianism in the Western Region must be earlier than the Central Plains. By the influence of the Ancient Silk Road, there are two main routes that the Nestorianism spread into the Western Region:along the southern line&along the northern line. There are many popular sites, like Chotscho, Almaliq, Kashgar and so on. Also, the Nestorianism spread into the Western Mongolia&Hexi Corridor. About the popularity of Nestorianism in these area, there are some reasons,like evangelical zeal, local acculturation, missionary strategy and the enviroment of religious tolerance. Moreover, the rise of the Mongolian Empire played a big role in the spread of Nestorianism in the Western Region.From the14th, A thorough and rapid decline started to the Nestorianism in the Western Region.Reasons are the change of political situation, the expansion of Islamism in Central Asia and the Western Region, and the destructive Black Death. But the remaining order lasted to the late19th. Nestorianism spread in the Western Region for about1,000years, left numerous remains, mainly about documents, tablets, drawings, and Non-material cultural heritage like languages&characters, custom.The study of this paper will comb the spread, developments and the last wither of the Nestorianism in the Western Region in a wider whole vision. It will promote the development of the Western Region History in religion study from new religional and cultural anthropological perspectives.
