The west wall painted the life of the Buddha in Shanxi Fanshi Yanshan Temple is one of the few existing Buddhist murals in Jin Dynasty in China. Contents in the mural are rich, Illustrating techniques superb, not only refined and expanded the illustrating in the past, but also reflects many social thoughts and folk fashion in Jin Dynasty. It reflects the Northern Song Dynasty even since the realistic delicate illustrating characteristics of Tang Dynasty. The characteristics of the life of the Buddha in Yanshan Temple provide us a good copy to decipher a comprehensive understanding of the life of the Buddha in Jin Dynasty, the image also further our understanding of the social background and philosophy of Jin Dynasty. Therefore this paper are based on thorough in investigation and reference literature, combine image analysis and text analysis, explore the mural from four parts:1st give a brief about the origin the life of the Buddha and the painter of the Yanshan Temple.2nd describe the four main parts of the mural, analysis its may based on the scriptures, and describe the other more special contents.3rd on the themes, Compared the mural of Yanshan Temple with Dunhuang, Northern Zhou Cave290, Five Dynasties Cave61and Ming Dynasty print "Origins of Buddhism", summarized the theme characteristic of the life of the Buddha; On the image, compared the life of the Buddha with the same kind murals of Tang Dynasty&Northern Song Dynasty and other paintings, analysis and summarized the image feature of the life of the Buddha.4th in connection with the emerging features of theme and image of the life of the Buddha illustrating in Yanshan Temple, moving forward to analysis the social background of Jin Dynasty and the special experience of artist himself, trying to more comprehensive and deep to understand the reason for the formation of artistic characteristics of Jin Dynasty the life of the Buddha. |
